In response to a diving accident in the 1990s that was caused by unsuitable diving equipment, two rescue divers decided to compare the features of the equipment available on the market (which was mainly for sports divers – cheap, cheerful and light) with the requirement profile of the “non-sports diver”. The results revealed a gap in the market, especially when it came to risk prevention. The available equipment did not meet the requirements determined in a risk assessment, which were based on PSA guidelines.
In their spare time, the two rescue divers began to develop and produce personal protective equipment (PPE) that would also meet the safety targets for diving activities. Patent applications were submitted, and utility models and registered designs were made. However, selling the designs proved difficult, so there was only one thing left to do.
Tatum GmbH was founded in 2002 to provide specialist products and individual solutions for occupational safety in the field of commercial and rescue diving. The company develops and manufactures components and modules for the personal protective equipment in breathing apparatus and associated devices. The patented, certified and type-approved modules can be combined to form complete solutions.
Tatum follows one guiding principle: to take primitive ideas, add more complex elements and then refine them to produce simple, easy-to-understand solutions. We offer individual solutions and ultra-small-scale series, and are also able to turn our customers’ ideas into viable practical apparatus.
